The assignment was to create something to help engage readers for Forbes Magazine. I, ultimately being most passionate about 3D while in a UI / UX new media major, decided to pick an article on a subject I could have fun modeling and practice rigging. Although there's something to be said about being able to interact with the story in a more tactile way. A few years later Google's AR animals would come out, achieving something similar.
This was SO FUN, I learned a ton with this project--adding hairs for realism, keyframing material traits to create the color change in the shell. Rigging six legs was a challenge, but the perfect time to practice IK!
Although it seems wild to me now, the UI animations are also largely 3D. At the time it was much easier for me to make everything in 3D and animate than it was to do in After Effects.
